Low battery symptoms? 1. Slow start (most obvious) 2. Trans program 3. Gauges go haywire, especially the tach 4. "Floating" gas gauge 5. Dim lights 6. Poor engine responce
NOTE: All measurements should be performed with the battery charger connected to the vehicle. 1. Measure the following at connector X6035 on the electric coolant water pump: - E90 and E91 - Pin 1 (fuse F09) and Pin 4 ground (X6455) = 12 volts.
Banner are a BMW OEM supplier. Then I had the battery registered at a BMW specialist. Here's the issue - Before I had my batt replaced, my voltage reading was a consistent 13.5 - 13.6V under all conditions. After the battery swap, it's been reading between 11.8V - 12.5V, even at higher rpms. Only occasionally it will go up to 13.5V.
Sometimes the ground connectors get rusted. Remove and clean them or just measure the impedance of the connection or the ground voltage at the DME. Once this is all done, check all the connectors on the DME for rust, coolant or oil. Sometimes the wiring harness sucks up coolant or oil (in case of a leak) up to the DME.Dead Battery. The first sign that your BMW alternator is failing is a dead battery. The battery is used to start your vehicle, so you won’t be able to start it if there isn’t enough juice left in it. This means a dead battery and a non-starting car can be indicators of an alternator problem.
Make sure the battery is for the correct one for car and model. Maybe its not the correct battery and is causing these faults. Call dealer and ask for part # battery your car needs and compare with the one you have. Buddy of mine had also electric issues caused by a simple lose minus or plus pool on the battery.Fuel pump isn't that likely either, you don't hear many n52s having a bad pump. Ignition coils sound more likely, my sister's n52 was experiencing similar issues and she had a bad coil. If the cranking is really slow it could also be a problem with the battery or alternator. Also, running rich on a cold start is normal. _____

The answer to your question is yes. Hard starting and rough idle are the hallmark symptoms of a bad eccentric shaft sensor. Please let me know if you have further questions. Please do not forget to click a positive rating as this is the only way I receive credit for my answer, thank you. Best wishes with your vehicle.
