Hi ppl, my car (e46 2002 318i) is at 70k miles and i am having the gear and differential oil changed, as many people on this forrum recommened. And there are 1,000 oil threads that reach that conclusion. First figure out what your bias is, then there are a few routes: 1. Rotella T6 - "I am a pragmatist with a 330 and have some oil loss issues" - Rotella is designed for diesel engines and fine for our engines.

Have the lab determine “remaining oil life.”. Mobil 1 5W-30 is too thin. That’s not just my opinion, it’s also BMW’s opinion. The only Mobil 1 oil that’s ever been on the approved oil list WAS 0W-40. Mobil changed this oil so it’s no longer on the approved oil list. I run LiquiMoly oil in my M240i.
MTL "Manual Transmission Lube". +1 for Redline MTL - had my 330Ci 5-sp oil changed at 13,000km to MTL back in 2004 and again in 2016 at 228,000km. Also changed the E82 123d 6-sp and the E36 318ti to it back in 2015. The only caveat is that the oil does need a bit more time to warm up on cold mornings (cold in Sydney is 5C).

The tranny obviously needs more than one bottle (assuming each bottle is only 1 qt or liter), but you should have ~half a bottle left over. Goae0b.
