The game's combat really is as simple as you want it to be, if you just want to smack zombies with a shovel for the entirety of the game, go for it, you can finish the game that way even, but saying that the combat is simple or boring is straight up false. Went exploring & questing when I noticed my weapons were not at level 30, but instead back at 16. The game kept all the $ I spent on level matching as well. I just turned the game off, this killed my desire to keep playing.
